What landed today, 2026-05-10

Four new cards, three pattern updates, no new operators. Two convergences drove the day: a quantified context engineering gap from 200 surveyed GTM operators, and a continuity argument from Lily Ray that pushes back against the frame that AEO replaces SEO. Swyx adds the quality-over-volume principle the sameness pattern was missing. Anthropic Routines closes the day with a concrete boundary between cloud-hosted and local agent execution.

Theme 1, The 21-point gap that is not about the model

Kyle Poyar and Maja Voje's Claude for GTM Pulse Report 2026, a 37-page survey of 200 GTM operators, produced one headline number: 93% of advanced Claude users have detailed company context built into their workflow as a foundation. Among task-runner users, 72% do. That 21-point gap is the subject of Among 200 GTM operators surveyed, detailed company context adoption separates systemic AI builders from task runners by 21 percentage points.. It extends Context, not capability, is the bottleneck with the first large-sample quantitative evidence the pattern has carried.

Maja Voje's 90% of AI content system output quality comes from the knowledge fed in, not from agent sophistication. One canonical artifact, many consumers. made the substrate argument from a content angle. Aatir Abdul Rauf's Context engineering beats prompt engineering for marketing AI workflows made it from a marketing workflow angle. The Poyar and Voje survey adds scale and direct comparison. When 200 operators answer the same questions, the gap stops being anecdotal. 67% of advanced users report workflows previously impossible. 55% have replaced a tool or vendor: ChatGPT, an agency, or a contractor.

"The top GTM AI tool stack in 2026 is Claude + CRM + orchestration. These tools are not competing. They are combining."

Theme 2, AEO is an extension, not a replacement

Lily Ray's keynote at Affiliate Summit West 2026 argued against the frame that AEO replaces SEO. Her claim: the skills and signals that built domain authority in traditional search are the same ones that determine AI-generated answer citations. The target surface changes from a ranked result to an inline citation. The underlying discipline does not change.

The signals that earn blue-link rankings are the same ones that earn AI-generated answer citations, making AEO an extension of SEO discipline, not a replacement. extends The AEO triangle, presence, relevance, manual-action propagation by adding the continuity operating premise. The pattern already carries measurement (Measure AI search on three layers: Presence, Readiness, Business Impact), citation gap detection (Citation rate and mention rate are different metrics; comparative content closes the gap), and manual-action propagation (Google manual actions propagate downstream to AI Overviews and ChatGPT citations). The continuity claim belongs in the triangle as the foundational entry point: do not restart the content program. Layer AEO signals on top of work that already demonstrates domain authority.

"The overlap with what we've been doing in the SEO space and digital marketing space before AI search existed is very, very strong."

Theme 3, Volume is not the lever

Swyx's Latent.Space piece this week landed a clean principle: there can be very little relationship between effort and result when effort means AI-generated output volume. In AI content, the quality lever is curation and a distinct point of view, not output volume. extends Differentiation requires three checks, different, better, matters by naming the fix. Brendan Hufford's four failure modes (Four content failure modes destroy every funnel: corporate, commodity, copycat, and ChatGPT content. GTM engineering cannot exit the sameness trap they produce.) name the categories of sameness. Swyx names the counter: aggressive curation and a point of view that does not come from the training set.

AnthropicRSQUOs Routines feature (Claude Code Routines separates cloud-hosted scheduled agent tasks from local compute, enabling event-triggered agent work on Anthropic's servers without the user's machine being online.) lands as infrastructure context for teams building agent workflows. Cloud-hosted scheduled agent tasks are now a first-class artifact alongside interactive sessions. The boundary: local execution for private filesystem work and sensitive data, Routines for pure-model tasks where cloud execution is safe.
