AI search investment requires scoring content across six independent dimensions, not a traffic forecast alone

Tier B · TL;DR
AI search investment requires scoring content across six independent dimensions, not a traffic forecast alone

Claim

Content investment decisions in the AI search era require a six-dimension scoring framework that separately assesses click resilience, citation potential, brand mention potential, business value, proprietary advantage, and expected effort.

Mechanism

AI answers have fundamentally changed the economics of informational content. For queries where the user only needs a quick explanation, AI satisfies the need entirely, eliminating click-through for that content type. For queries where the user needs proof, current data, or personalized results, click-through persists.

Solis states this boundary directly:

"AI answers are much more likely to fully satisfy the user's need when they only want a quick explanation, and less likely when they still need proof, current or personalized data"

A traffic forecast cannot predict which content falls on which side of that line, because traffic is the outcome, not the input variable. The six-dimension framework makes the underlying value drivers explicit before investment:

  1. Click resilience: how likely a user visits the page after seeing an AI answer
  2. Citation potential: probability the page provides unique, verifiable information AI will cite
  3. Brand mention potential: whether the content associates the brand with relevant entities
  4. Business value: directness in supporting acquisition, conversion, retention, or support
  5. Proprietary advantage: difficulty for competitors to reproduce without the organization's specific assets
  6. Expected effort: resources required for production and maintenance

Scoring the six dimensions independently prevents a single high-traffic estimate from justifying investment in content that AI will satisfy without a click.

Conditions

Holds when: the organization must prioritize content investment under resource constraints and needs to distinguish between content that retains value in an AI-saturated search environment and content that loses traffic to AI answers.

Fails when: traffic volume is not the primary goal, or the content strategy is driven by brand or PR considerations where citation and click-through are secondary.

Evidence

Solis published this framework and worksheet on August 6, 2026 at aleydasolis.com, with a downloadable Google Sheets scorer. The worksheet enables organizations to score content against the six dimensions adapted to their specific audience, priority queries, performance data, and business model.

This builds on her earlier three-layer AEO measurement framework (see Measure AI search on three layers: Presence, Readiness, Business Impact), which covered AI Presence, Readiness, and Business Impact at the measurement level. The six-dimension content framework operates at the investment decision level, one step upstream.

Signals

Counter-evidence

The framework scores potential, not outcomes. A page with high citation potential may not get cited if the brand's domain authority or topical coverage is weak relative to established competitors. The six-dimension score is a proxy for investment priority, not a prediction.
